Blacksmith's Shop Radsack

The blacksmith's shop Radsack in Stresdorf near Gadebusch is a family business that combines tradition and future in an intriguing way.

Father Birger Radsack is a blacksmith master and teacher of his craft with a diploma in free painting. Coco Radsack operates as a silversmith in Schwerin an art department store. For some years now, both sons and the son-in-law have been working in the blacksmith’s shop in Stresdorf, which has meanwhile specialized in ‘Tiny Houses’: mobile homes which meet high ecological and energy standards. The mechatronic engineer Robert Radsack is responsible for the planning and construction of the buildings: “On 30 square meters you will find a kitchen and a bathroom as well as a living room and a bedroom. For many people quality of life no longer signifies living in a big space surrounded by their many belongings. They prefer to be free and mobile - based on the motto: less is more!”

In 1988, family Radsack settled in Nordwestmecklenburg and have, since then, been engaged in the preservation of historical monuments by means of educational projects or art exhibitions. It so happens that Stresdorf with its thatched cottages and barns is completely listed.

In the seminar room of the blacksmith’s shop, visitors enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the picturesque hilly landscape near Gadebusch in Nordwestmecklenburg. “With our open workshop and forging courses, we want to raise awareness of professional craftsmanship and quality.” Birger Radsack also reveals the advantage of having work and the private life take place at the same spot. After having finished his work, he can directly head over to visit his grandchildren: “The compatibility of work and family is optimised!”
