Landhaus Apmann

In loving detail, fashion designer Olivia Althaus-Apmann has transformed the old farmhouse in the idyllic Thandorf into a real gem.

Olivia Althaus-Apmann has been producing and presenting her collections in the "Landhaus Apmann" in the biosphere reserve of Schalsee since 2004: individual pieces of fine leather in nappa and velour, of high-quality wool and cashmere fabrics are combined with modern high-quality tech materials.

“The beauty of the Mecklenburg countryside is reflected in the materials we use to create a special fashion and living collection,” says Olivia Althaus-Apmann, explaining her overall concept: “Absolutely individual and custom made.” Jackets, coats and costumes are created after a detailed type consultation: fashion has to match its wearer.

The former hayloft is now used as spacious studio where the designer’s new collections are created. Here, Olivia Althaus-Apmann also invites to seasonal events and presentations where guests get to experience the interplay of creativity and craftsmanship. The showroom is decorated with selected accessories from small partner manufactories and large-format paintings: a total work of art influenced from fashion, living and floral design. “The high-quality producers of our region should exchange more and work together,” says Olivia Althaus-Apmann. “A region is only as strong as its best producers." Therefore, the fashion designer supports fellow producers by opening her country house with its 7000 m² gardens for art exhibitions as well.

A specialty of the designer is fur recycling: “Furs are extremely durable. Some of my have inherited a valuable piece of fur clothing – we alter it by using new finishing techniques and contemporary design.” This is how an image change takes place: Furs are no longer a status symbol, but a high-quality natural product, which showcases a sustainable sign in our throwaway society.
