The name already tells you what you will find here: in the pretty town on the Elbe River, you will find the only completely preserved fortress in northern Germany. The impressive building dates from the 16th century. You can get to know more of the history of the historic old part of town, of the harbour on the Elbe and the region in the local museum.

Fort Dömitz (exhibition “Im Grunde“)
The bulwark of fort Dömitz overlooks the river Elbe by the city of Dömitz. Its walls saw princes, army commanders, and kings come and go and inspired poets. Nature lovers can find the exciting exhibition “Im Grunde” and the visitor centre of the biosphere reserve “Elbe-Schaalsee” here.
