Müritz-Elde-Stör Waterway

180 km of navigable waterways with lots of towns and villages along the way invite you to set foot on land.

Boating enthusiasts will find an ideal waterway network here. The network of federal waterways of Westmecklenburg is located between Müritz and the Elbe and is, therefore, part of the largest inland water sports area in Europe. Just like the Stör Canal, the Müritz-Elde waterway meanders through unspoiled countryside. There are lots of exciting places and sights along the river – the journey is its own reward.

A castle, a chocolate marshmallow factory, locks and a lot more provide variety. The houseboats and house rafts with their slow speed are in their element here.

Insider tip – Lake Schwerin and the Stör Canal

Shortly after Matzlow-Garwitz, the Stör Canal branches off from the Elde waterway and runs to the northwest. The canal, built in 1706, runs straight through the European Bird Reserve Lewitz to the Banzkower lock for a few kilometres. From there, the Stör meanders past small villages, meadows, forests and pastures to Raben Steinfeld, where it flows into Lake Schwerin. Germany's third largest lake offers natural bays and shores and, of course, the unique city of Schwerin, where you can moor directly opposite the fairy-tale castle. Rent bicycles or enjoy the state capital of Schwerin. The old part of town – with its alleys, shops, theatres, museums and more – are just a few steps away
